❓ Frequently Asked Questions

For a 10×12 ft room with 10ft ceiling height: Wall area = perimeter × height = 2(10+12) × 10 = 440 sq ft = 40.9 m². Minus 2 doors (3.6 m²) and 2 windows (2.4 m²) = 34.9 m² net. For 2 coats of emulsion at 12 m²/L: 34.9 × 2 ÷ 12 = 5.8 litres + 10% wastage = 6.4 litres. Buy 2 × 4L tins (8 litres) to be safe.
Wall putty is recommended for new construction to fill surface imperfections and create a smooth base. It significantly improves paint adhesion and finish quality. For budget projects, it can be skipped on plastered surfaces, but primer is still essential. Apply 2 coats of putty, sand between coats, then apply primer before topcoat.
Emulsion paint is water-based, dries quickly (2–4 hours), has low VOC, and is used for walls and ceilings. Enamel paint is oil-based or alkyd-based, dries harder and glossier (8–12 hours), is washable, and is used for woodwork, doors, metal, and areas needing durability. Enamel costs more but lasts longer in high-traffic areas.
